| The U.S.S. Dolphin (AGSS-555) was the U.S. Navy's last
diesel submarine. Commissioned in 1968, the Dolphin began a record
making career that would last 38 years. The Dolphin holds the world's
record as the deepest diving operational submarine, reaching a depth in
excess of 3000 feet! A year after its launching, fitted with an external torpedo tube,
the Dolphin
conducted the deepest firing of a torpedo, also a record... The Dolphin was designed as a test and scientific platform for the U.S. Navy and was finally decommissioned in 2006. This distinguished craft is modeled in 1/48th scale. Adopting the philosophy of "...a large model of a small boat...", it's large enough to be built up into a museum quality model, but is small enough to fit in any car.. Length: 41 3/8" Beam: 4 1/2" |
