After many false starts, we have finally received the OK from the Town of Kent to utilize Lake Carmel for a model boat club! All model boat enthusiasts are welcome! We have selected a site on the lake with convenient parking and lots of shade. As of the week of June 20, 2011 the water was relatively free of weeds and is deep enough to run model submarines with ease. The town has deposited a large load of sand on the beach, but as of the end of June has not spread it out. There is room for a few folding tables on the dock in addition to ample beach front with easy access from which we can launch our boats. We only have (2) restrictions on our use of the lake: 1. Only electric or wind driven models are permitted on the lake. Gasoline and Nitro powered vehicles of any kind are prohibited. 2. The Parks Department is requiring that a list of names, and associated vehicle license plate numbers be submitted so the local police can be notified that non-residents will be using the town facilities. Currently, non-residents are prohibited from using town recreational facilities. Therefore, if you would like to attend one of our fun runs, please let us know by the Wednesday evening before the scheduled event so we can update our list and pass it along to the Parks department. They in turn will notify the local Police Department. Lake Carmel is located approximately 90 minutes north of NYC, 60 minutes east of the NY/PA border, about 75 minutes west of Hartford, CT and 20 minutes west of Danbury, CT, in Northern Putnam County, New York. For those of you who are local to the area but don't know where Lake Carmel is located, Lake Carmel is located midway between Fishkill, NY and Danbury, CT right off exit 18 on Interstate I-84. The beach we will be using is adjacent to the Lake Carmel Cultural Center on Rt. 52 in Carmel, NY. The address of the Lake Carmel Cultural Center is: 640 Route 52 Carmel, NY 10512 (If using a GPS, the City may be listed as “Lake Carmel” or “Kent Cliffs” as well; all three use the same Zip Code. Some GPS units may not find this address at all. The Center is located on Rt. 52 across from Barrett Hill Road. ) Please refer to the map below for the directions once you get to Rt. 311 or Rt. 52. Please note public restrooms are not available at this facility. The Arts Center is currently undergoing renovations and there is security fence around the building, making it almost impossible to miss!
