Attention All Sub Drivers:
Over the last several years the R/C industry has been quietly moving away from the long standing 72 MHz & 75 MHz frequencies to the newer 2.4 GHz frequency. While 2.4 GHz may appear to have several noteworthy advantages, be warned, "...all that glitters is not gold..."
Be advised: 2.4 GHz does not penetrate water! It never has and it never will. Don’t let anyone tell you differently.
Also, 2.4 GHz is a line-of-sight frequency. This means that if something (dense) comes between you and your model, your model may lose contact with your transmitter.
However, the most disturbing turn of events is that the major manufacturers will be discontinuing 72 & 75 MHz radios in favor of the new 2.4 GHz systems. While this is a “good” business decision for the manufacturers, it is the kiss of death for the R/C submarine community. Within the next 6 months to a year, the major manufacturers will stop producing 75 MHz radios all together (if they had not already done so)! This also includes the production of receivers and crystals!
Here at Mike’s Subworks, we are working as diligently as possible to secure as many 75 MHz radio systems as possible! We’ve even gone as far as postponing the release of our new UDC-1 to concentrate our resources on acquiring as many radios as we can.
We currently have the majority of the remaining Polk’s Tracker III Radios. We have received the first batch of these radios and expect the second shipment imminently, with the rest to follow within the next few weeks. We also have a number of the Polk’s programmable SEEKER6 receivers on order and expect them shortly. These receivers do not need crystals and work with ALL major brands of radio systems.
Note: As of this posting almost ½ of the radios we ordered have been sold! And the latest batch of SEEKER6 receivers is already gone! Order yours while they are still available...
In addition, we still have access to a limited number of HITEC Laser 4 & 6 Radios.
Sooner or later, the radios we depend on for our hobby will go the way of the dinosaur. Evaluate your current equipment now so you can plan for the future. Radios are available now. They may not be available in 6 months or a year…
It is not our intention to cry “WOLF!” However, judging by the current availability of radios, it will become painfully apparent within the next several months that radios for our models will be harder and harder, if not impossible to find.
Rest assured we will do our best to help postpone this unfortunate turn of events for as long as we can.
We are whole heartedly committed to the R/C Submarine community! And as always, if we can’t answer your questions or provide what you’re looking for, we will do our best to point you in the direction of someone who can.
Sincerely,
Michael & Alissa Shubar
