CO2 Ballast Systems & Parts:
General information:
CO2 is used to force water out of the ballast tank, making the model lighter so it can surface. CO2 (as used in model submarines) is a liquefied high pressure gas with a nominal pressure of between 800 and 1000 p.s.i. Because of this high pressure, a regulator is needed to lower the pressure to a workable level. While the pressure may seem extensive, because of the advanced state of product development and manufacture, CO2 can be used safely and cheaply in model submarines.
